  1. Note Formatting errors in the Kindle edition A few paragraphs were missing, causing jumps in the text.Lydia was a delightful heroine and it was nice to see Harry s story However, there was just so much rehashing of old territory We got a big review at the start of the book, then Harry thought about the Great Disaster, then Lydia thought about the Great Disaster from the village POV, then Harry told Lydia about the Great DisasterI know it s the formative event of his life, but after 8 9 books it [...]

  2. Harry Westcott s life took a dramatic turn after the events of the Great Disaster when it was discovered that his recently deceased father, the Earl of Riverdale, had in fact committed bigamy when he married Harry s mother thus rendering him illegitimate and stripped him of all titles and fortune he once had Harry then made the decision to enlist in the Army, which nearly cost him his life Gravely injured at Waterloo, he spent two years being treated in Paris before his cousin and his former gua [...]

  3. Of course I love all the Westcotts, but it s possible that Harry and Lydia and their journey to each other are my very favorites of this series Although I d have to re read the rest which I may do to be sure.Lydia s challenges, and her mixed up solutions, make perfect sense to me in the context of her background, and Harry is as good hearted and delightful as the rest of the Westcott family, and as on the wrong track as Lydia in terms of how he s decided to solve his life challenges. But the best [...]

  4. This Wescott book, as well as the prior Matilda novella, have been an enormous disappointment for this Mary Balogh fan So much of this book was simply filler rehashing pieces of the old novels in the series Even with all that, someone picking this book up without having the background would have a severe headache trying to follow the story.or lack there of in this case It seems as thought MB s just putting out books for the sake of having something new to publish vs truly having a decent new plo [...]

  5. Was so looking forward to this book, but I find myself skipping whole pages of repetitive facts Having read the entire series, the constant references to past characters is both annoying and boring Will force myself to finish the book as I would like to see a happy ending for Harry.

  6. I ve read over 30 of Ms Balogh s books and have loved all of themsometimes had to wait months for the next book but it was always worth it I don t know what her next book will be really enjoyed all of the Wescott Series Ms Balogh is the best of all of the Regency authors.

  7. I ve loved the Westcott series, and almost all of Balogh s other books, but I think this is the weakest, for several reasons Because it takes place almost a decade after the first book in the series, the impact of the Great Disaster as they call it, has rather run out of steam as the impetus for the plot It s nice to see all the family again, but it was less convincing It was quite slow to get into, I would previously have read them in a single sitting, but this time I just wasn t so interested [...]

  8. The original premise of the Westcott saga was interesting and promising, and I enjoyed the earliest books in the series Perhaps the author left it too long to write Harry s story his should have been the most interesting, because he, as the original heir, lost literally everything title, inheritance, property, etc However, as with all the recent books, the entire Westcott clan was trotted out, at the beginning, the middle and the end, with their ridiculous plotting and planning Maybe others can [...]
