  1. Even when you need to suspend your disbelief to engage in a story, as you might need to for say, a Mission Impossible style book, the plot and characters need to be believable This begins with a crucial scene that is wrong in a fundamental way, and that for me, is incredibly annoying One of the main characters is being described in detail Then the details begin to contradict themselves I m not giving details, because I hate to spoil any aspect of a plot, so you ll just have to take my word for i [...]

  2. The Mafia in Italy is doing business with a family crime team, Curtis Patterson and his brothers in England, drug business for sure Meanwhile, Control at Group Fifteen, assigns Number Eight, John Milton, to go to Naples Mission, find Number Three, and stop the Patterson Family, and maybe do some damage to the Mafia John Milton is a complicated character, maybe the best assassin Britain has He is cool and calm while doing his job, but you can already see the emotional toll this takes on Milton A [...]

  3. Yet another winner from Mark Dawson This novella takes another look back into John Milton s violent past as an operative of the top secret government agency, Group 15 This time around, Milton travels to Naples, Italy to find out what happened to another member of the agency who disappeared while on assignment Milton must get close to the Italian crime syndicate, the Camorra, gain their trust and pick up where his missing colleague left off If you like mystery, suspense and action, all wrapped up [...]

  4. This book is great as an introduction to John Milton One can see how dangerous he is I have read this book before It is still a good read the second time around I rarely will read a book twice so to do so all the way to the end shows it must be a great book.

  5. This is a very short novella dealing with the earlier days of John Hilton s career as an assassin for Group Fifteen It is a worthwhile and somewhat necessary read and I also learned of a second prequel to The Cleaner , the first in the series of John Hilton s exploits.

  6. How can Mark Dawson pack so much action into a short novella You ll have to read this one to find out But, I have read ALL of Mark s books and can say, without a doubt, that this book is just as gripping as his other, longer ones I love the idea that we can travel back in time through this book to the main character s John Milton early days, prior to his debut in The Cleaner It s like adding vanilla ice cream to apple pie the pie is great, but turns totally wonderful with the addition of ice cre [...]

  7. This John Milton novel is for readers who like to take time to imagine imagine the assassin Tarantula setting up a kill as Dawson describes him doing at the story s opening scene Imagine the lovely Camorra bar manageress Milton meets and then re meets as she languorously suns herself on a nearby beach Take the time to savor things herebecause this is a fast and focused Milton outing It amounts to a short novel but the pacing and the adrenaline are all there I say Four Stars because I would have [...]

  8. First time reader of this author and now i am hooked This was such a great, easy and creative book i was hooked after the first page. The characters were easy to fall in love with and follow, along with the story the author made the mental visions so easy and vivid of the surroundings and the characters actions felt so real.i would highly recommend this author and this book.

  9. A fun and short novella that, if you ve read all the Milton books, you ll enjoy as it fleshes out a little of the character s backstory If you haven t then you ll still enjoy it and it s a great introduction to the character.A tight plot that is believable, although I felt the ending was anticlimactic A fun way to spend an hour and I enjoy it when authors release these shorts Sometimes we don t need 400 pages and any longer it would have felt drawn out Recommended.

  10. This novella shows who John Milton was when he was working for Group 15, a cold blooded killer for the government The story is sharp, concise and thoroughly entertaining.I ve read all of the John Milton series where he forsakes his past and attempts to atone for the killings, but its nice to see how he once was.Mark Dawson knows how keep a series fresh.
