  1. The author wondered about things most of us have wondered about, and he made his questions into a short research project He stood on the side of the road panhandling, and he was able to experience it and draw various conclusions about it The writing was enjoyable, the conclusions were well drawn, and overall I found the book to be fascinating and thought provoking. His aims were narrow, and I don t fault him for that certainly he had a most unusual topic, a short time to use for his research, and [...]

  2. The writing comes off as a bit undergrad ish, as it should since that s pretty much what the author was Also, the study is lacking in many respects, but I need not describe the shortcomings the author is very much upfront about them.I gave it five stars for two reasons First, it shed light on an interesting topic and pointed the way to additional studies that could flesh it out The other reason is my opinion of the author Not sure what he s doing nowadays, but if his application for grad school [...]

  3. Short case study is certainly an accurate description of what we have here The author panhandled for a total of two weeks before abandoning his study Granted, he did have legitimate problems that necessitated exiting the exit ramp and entering the real world once I would have liked to see numbers on a longer study, and to see his study acknowledge some of the problems the homeless face that your average citizens do not For example, the author is at one point threatened with violence by a potenti [...]

  4. This was a very interesting book if only for the stunt of pretending to be homeless while not saying that you are There is a fair amout of soul searching and questioning the author does in going through with the experiment, feeling bad about presenting an untrue image of himself Then there is the question we all want to know which makes this very interesting, how much can you make with a sign on the side of the road It better answers how much can a white male vet and you must be a veteran as the [...]

  5. This book confirmed what I already knew Panhandling can be a profitable venture The insides provided by Spears were well thought out and entertaining to read I would be interested to know what the numbers would be if this study was done in 2021.

  6. I found the analysis of the information collected by David P.Spears II, held not only self evident facts but also some really interesting side or sub factors that held some surprises for the reader These also made him dig deeper, into his tool bag of college or university calculators to bring to the reader first hand, a fuller picture of the lower socio economic person and their plight as they engage in pan handling to make ends meet, and survive the riggers of lifes ever present problems A snap [...]
