  1. If you re a fan of Hugo Nebula award winners, you ve probably already read it 7 Views won em both, plus a bunch around the world If not, and even if you re not into sci fi, it s a short only 45 pages , sweet, brilliant take on a old but profound theme you might have even wondered about yourself When aliens visit the Earth millions of yrs from now, long after humans have become extinct, what will they find And intriguingly, what might they conclude about us the significant life form that lived he [...]

  2. This is of a short story than novella, or maybe what Poe would call a tale Poe said about 40 pages, this was 42 , whereas I think of novellas as being 75 100 pages Anyway, you can read this at the breakfast table and still make the subway on time It s an interesting take, future anthropologists archaeologists visiting Earth after mankind has dominated the galaxy and then gone extinct But it s a little bit too pat, too cartoonishly drawn, as if among all the interstellar species Man was the only [...]

  3. Average story, though well written you don t have to regret time spent on it, but there s hardly anything I haven t read or heard or thought myself before I would expect definitely from Hugo or Nebula winner, but then, maybe it just wasn t good year for speculative fiction. On the minus side narrator s ability to extract story from mere things without consciesness and memory is extremely unbelievable mankind is painted in too dark colors on one side and way too glorified on the other we are reall [...]

  4. A very thought provoking book.A group of Alien archeologists come to Earth, the birthplace of vanished Man, who conquered the entire galaxy before fading into legend. They come to learn all they can of the species that had taken over their planets, and ruled over them all They learn much about these predators called Mankind. This story is told from several viewpoints, learned by artifacts that are absorbed and the secrets they hold laid bare This book is very different from others in the same genr [...]

  5. I expected from a book advertised as a Hugo and Nebula award winner This was written in the 1990 s If it won these awards, the field of competition for that year must have been very weak As others have noted, of a long short story than a novella I expected to read this in one night, from what I had read in other reviews I did not expect the character development and narrative assumptions to be so uninteresting.

  6. This read like a great episode of Twilight Zone the original Outer Limits As a Novella it s a quick read with an excellent story pacing Like all good Sci fi, there is always some allegory Whether it s socio political, environmental, morality, or a mixture of all the above, allegory will always be a part of good Sci fi This story has that combo A really great read.

  7. Seven Views of Olduvai Gorge Kindle Edition by Mike ResnickSeven short stories that chronicle the end of Mankind, from it s beginning If that sounds rather ambitious, it is But the book is so well written, that you keep turning the pages Each story does feed into the next one, and answers a lot of questions while not answering so many Yet, you do get context, and you can feel the history of that sacred place as the stories evolve Beautifully done

  8. An interesting story of mankind Well written, good human characters.Well s The Time Machine, of 1895, is something that makes head spin around even in the 21st century Seven Views of Olduvai Gorge, in comparison, is nothing like that It is just a nice one hour s read.
