  1. I have read about our countries history and with it about the Indians I have a healthy respect and interest in native Americans They got pushed it it their land when a powerful and greedy people came to live That being said, that very thing has been done since the dawn of history It s nothing new to claim a new land as your own However, it was done badly The Indians tried to fight back and scare away the white men This also was done badly I have never heard a detailed and horrific amount of an I [...]

  2. This is another great, first person account of the trials and tribulations of crossing the American west in a wagon train I love these kinds of books because they offer a true glimpse of what like was like in the mid 1800s The book also goes describes the fears of the travelers as they got closer to Indian Territory And then it happened, and the author s descriptions are horrific In this case the author, who was a 13 year old girl at the time, wasn t abducted by the Indians, although others were [...]

  3. I love Western tales I wanted to love this one but there were so many typographical errors it was very difficult to read There were many misspelled words and many run on sentences Many, many commas than were necessary I don t know if this was intentional on the part of the writer I had a hard time following the thoughts I loved the premise, though Lots of potential here.

  4. People will say this is old history They will say, no one cares any I say if we not share these often horrible truths These early battles for survival We dishonor all those, regardless of sex, race, religion, the lessons in strength and truth and love I did not enjoy this story I am absolutely honored to have been able to read it Mrs Emeline Fuller, thank you Although you are gone from earthly woes and are rejoicing with your loved ones in heaven You are not forgotten here, your family lives on. 5. This was a very interesting account not of the author s whole life but mainly about her family s trek out west, her subsequent survival after various Native American encounters that decimated the small wagon train. How she and a few survivors managed to live when the Indians must have known where they were is a mystery, since they were starving, shoeless and without warm clothing I won t do any spoilers but believe me, you would not have wanted to be there The Calvary were portrayed as both feckl [...]

  6. Short story describing some of the dangers that could be encountered crossing the American west in 1860 Incredible hardships that would make me rather stay home than chance trying to escape the dangers Many died of diseases like cholera and typhoid This poor girls family was killed by Indians Very harsh days where people died young.

  7. A true story of the reality of how things were Not romanticizing anything We get Dances with Wolves in the movies, but rarely anything like this A shame.

  8. This was a good read It gave an honest account of the frequent tragic encounters that migrants on the Oregon Trail had with Indians of various tribes These were Indians that earned the title savages because quite often, after travelers gave to them what little they had in the name of peace, these savages would slaughter entire familes not showing the slightest mercy to even the youngest of the members The experience that this young girl had in those untamed lands, made me appreciate all the the [...]

  9. A product of its time, this book is purely factual and I didn t find it particularly gripping It didn t flow well at times, but then the author was simply relating their experiences, not writing for the public Interesting, but no than that.

  10. How can anybody imagine what it was like to suffer as this lady did whilst living amongst the indians, don t get me wrong I have an enormous respect for the american indian and their way of life, a well told story
