  1. As you may have surmised, not only am I one of countless thousands of fans of Sandford s Prey series, but I ve been rereading them all And since my memory for details isn t that great, I am enjoying them almost as much as the first time I think what makes his books so popular and unique is his use of humor, even within the most dire of circumstances I must admit that Harry Bosch, Michael Connelly s answer to Lucas Davenport, was once my favorite detective But as I have been immersed in the Prey [...]

  2. This was my first Lucas Davenport novel, and I think I ve read it four times now It didn t affect my love of the series, despite it coming so late in the list about halfway, now, I think , and I was taken by the protagonist right away Easy enough to go back and read the first novels, or even the last few, where Davenport is working as a U.S Marshal Understand, Sandford doesn t write challenging text But the characters are interesting, the plots intricate, the dialogue believable and funny at tim [...]

  3. Just finished this book not quite as good The end was not really a surprise due to what had happened just a little bit earlier but it was exceptionally good I am rereading the Prey books from about midway through the series they are just as good or better the second time around.

  4. I have really enjoyed the prey series but unfortunately this book was a complete dud The Lucas Davenport that I came to really like from the earlier books was nowhere to be found in this book He usually is a man of action who gets things done one way or the other Meaning he did not just sit back and wait for things to happen he made them happen But not in this book Basically in this book all he really does is a lot of driving and talking doesn t even really figure things out it just haphazardly [...]

  5. I am an ardent John Sandford fan I recently purchased and read the complete Prey series and then the complete Flowers series in order, and I m only sorry I ll have to wait for the next book in both series Sandford is a novelist with the rare ability to carry over characters and plot elements with complete believabiity while allowing both to develop in interesting, unexpected but natural ways the only other serial novelist who does this nearly as well is Anthony Trollope, and he avoids murders I [...]

  6. This one has always been my favorite of the Davenport books Letty is such an interesting character I had forgotten a lot about her so reading it again after years will be helpful for the next books One thing about this author is that while he may refer to previous cases he doesn t dwell on them so if it s been a while you tend to forget certain characteristics Good Read

  7. Another good one in the Prey series from Sanford, which explains the introduction of his adopted daughter For those who haven t read the books in order, like me Why am I asked for reviews so long after I finished the book and have read 4 othersAnywhooo, not one of Sanford s gruesome stories It centers around a small Minnesota prairie townduring the winter, of course A hanging takes place which involves a mixed race couple The press descends looking for blood with a character along the lines of a [...]

  8. I first picked up a John Sandford novel by chance in a doctor s office when I d forgotten my book There was a stack of books in the corner and I picked up several, reading the first few sentences of each I chose one by John Sandford which had a first paragraph that I couldn t put down It was one of his Virgil Flowers books this current order is one is from his Lucas Davenport series I ve read most of Sandford s books in both series and always keep one in the car in case I find myself somewhere n [...]

  9. I am reading the books out of order, which still seems OK, and enjoying them very much Lucas Davenport is the lead detective, this time with his sidekick Del, and they investigate a double murder lynching in a small town in northern Minnesota As always, nothing is straight forward things are linked the sensible twists and turns ensue. The characters are well developed and I enjoyed reading this stand alone novel.

  10. I absolutely love these prey books I have never been disappointed with any of the stories although this is a very early one the plot and characters are so believable.I would recommend to anyone who likes a good crime thriller with humour thrown in.
