  1. SPOILER ALERT Another interesting entry into the series Ann Cleeves does a good job of throwing the reader off the scent of the murderer And archaeology is always a fascinating subject to me I was a little sad she chose to have Hattie die and in the manner she did At the beginning, I was hoping she might become a love interest for Sandy Also nice was getting a better glimpse into Sandy s life and his personality Nice to see him maturing a bit.I missed Fran for most of the book I wanted to knock [...]

  2. In the Shetland Isles, some secrets stay buried for centuries In an archaeological dig on Whalsay Island, students discover the remains of a medieval merchant s hime, along with some bones Much to everyone s surprise, one of those bones is much recent. At the same time, on a dark night, an old woman is shot and killed, presumably in a hunting accident She owns the land where the dig is taking place, and noone seems to question the wuestion the circumstances of her death But when one of the studen [...]

  3. Inspector Jimmy Perez just can t accept the suspicious deaths that have happened one after another on the island of Whalsay in the Shetlands First an eccentric old woman is shot accidentally by a drunken local out shooting rabbits at night Then a promising young woman anthropologist is found dead in her dig with her wrists slit. While Perez investigates, he turns up than one unpleasant secret including murders that go back decades and major and minor thefts Greed, jealousy, and resentment are ram [...]

  4. RED BONES by Ann Cleeves is the 3rd title in her SHETLAND series, featuring Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez One of Perez s assistants, Sandy Wilson, has an expanded role in this investigation Sandy s family is at the center of the 2 murders on his home island of Whalsay and his many personal insights into the family and knowledge of the community aids Perez in solving the case.Perez must peel away the many layers of secrets held by the closely knit families on Whalsay, just as the archeologists [...]

  5. I m a big fan of Ann Cleeves and have enjoyed everything she writes The Shetland series is good but have not been as endeared to Inspector Perez as I have been with Inspector Stanhope in her Vera series However, we get a better feel for Jimmy Perez character in this book, which I truly enjoyed I often figure out who done it before the end of my read, but must admit this one took me by surprise Loved it and on my way to the next Shetland murder mystery

  6. Wish there were than 7 in this series But then I don t have enough book shelf for the many I would want her to write Intelligently and intricately written some may think it slow, but I like the unforlding which gives times to savor character and plot.

  7. Savage murders and a wee snippet of romance This is the third of the Perez Shetland tales and I long for Last I looked there were 8 in this series, may there be many A couple years back I was one of the welcome, yet dreaded, tourists to Lerwick The town didn t satisfy me, but walks through the land, the people I met when asking for directions, the sky, the sea Cleeves takes me back to the best of Shetland

  8. I like these books, I m reading the 6th one just now But I wonder why the author Ann Cleeves did certain things For example, why were the first four named for colors and then colors were abandoned by the fifth book Not that I am not glad she abandoned colors But I think she might have not started them in the first place Anyway, Red Bones is good, I like the characters in this one and the anthropology.

  9. I enjoyed Red Bones which is the third book in the Shetland series As with the first two books, Ann Cleeves brings Shetland vividly to life She has a wonderful ability to transport readers to her chosen locations which creates a very strong sense of place. In terms of the story, Cleeves tends to let things unravel at a somewhat leisurely pace I admit I found it a little too slow at times but it picked up when it needed to and maintained my interest The ending however, confused me a little Althoug [...]

  10. So after winter and summer in Shetland, Raven Black and White Nights respectively, it s the turn of spring in this the third book in Ann Cleves Shetland season This time located away from the Mainland as the biggest of the Shetland Islands is known on the smaller island of Whalsey the story starts with the apparently accidental shooting of Sandy Wilson s grandmother, but it s not long before there s a second death and Jimmy Perez is in full on investigative mode trying to establish a link betwee [...]
